Account and sign-in
This page is about the online version, scrawl3d. Scrawl3d on your own PC has no account and no sign-in.
Create an account
Open the site and choose Create one under the sign-in box. Give your name, email and a password: at least 10 characters with upper and lower case letters and a number. The company or team name is optional. Without one, your workspace is called "Your name's workspace".
You are the admin of your new organization and are signed in straight away. We also email you a link to confirm your address. Until you follow it, Account and security says "not confirmed", with a button to send the link again.
Joining a colleague's organization? Don't sign up: ask them to invite you (see Organization).
Email and password, then a second step if you've turned one on (see below). After 5 wrong tries in a row (wrong password or wrong code), the account is locked for 15 minutes.
You stay signed in for 24 hours.
Forgot your password
On the sign-in page, Forgot your password? emails you a link to choose a new one. The link works once, for an hour. If you have two-step sign-in, it still asks for the second step afterwards.
The account menu
The round badge with your initials, top right of the toolbar:
- Account and security: your name, password, email confirmation and two-step sign-in.
- Organization (admins: Organization and members): see Organization.
- Sign out.
Two-step sign-in
Account and security › Two-step sign-in. After your password, it asks for one of these:
- Authenticator app (Google Authenticator, 1Password, Authy…): Set up, scan the QR code, type the 6-digit code to confirm.
- Security key such as a YubiKey: Add key, name it, then touch the key. Add a spare key too, if you have one.
You can have both. At sign-in, use whichever is at hand.
Backup codes
When you turn on your first second step, you get 10 backup codes. Save them somewhere safe; they are shown only once. Each code signs you in once if you lose your phone and keys: on the sign-in page, choose Lost your phone? Use a backup code.
New backup codes makes a fresh set and cancels the old ones.
Turning off the app, removing a key and making new backup codes all ask for your password again.
API keys: Claude (MCP) and scripts
Account › API keys › Create API key, give it a name (where you use it). The key (s3d_…) is shown once: copy it then. It acts as you, so keep it like a password; the trash button revokes it at once. Each key shows when it was last used.
Connect Claude Code with the command shown next to the new key:
claude mcp add --transport http scrawl3d https://scrawl3d.com/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer s3d_…"
Add --scope user to have it in every folder, not only the one you ran it in. Claude Code picks it up in its next session.
With scrawl3d open in a browser tab, signed in as the same user, Claude works in that tab (the one you opened or clicked last), with the same tools as in the app, and you see every change happen: a note at the bottom of the screen says what Claude is doing, and Ctrl+Z undoes any of its steps. A tab that was already open connects within a minute of making the key (at once when you click it). If Claude says the tab "runs an older version", reload it: it was opened before an update.
With no tab open, Claude still works: on your own copy of the scene kept on the server. It starts empty, or from a saved project with open_project, and save_project saves the result as a project version you can then open in the app. Every tool works there except screenshot (Claude checks its work with sizes and bounds instead), and undo steps back through Claude's last 30 changes. The copy stays between sessions until Claude starts another project; it is separate from any tab, so open what Claude saved, not the copy.
Exports come back as a download link valid for an hour. The tools are listed in What Claude can build. list_projects (your organization's saved projects) and get_project_file (a download link to a project's current .jcad) answer straight from your saved projects.
Connect claude.ai (or Claude Desktop) without a key: Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector, name it scrawl3d and give the URL https://www.scrawl3d.com/api/mcp. Leave the OAuth fields empty. Claude opens a scrawl3d page: sign in if asked, check the account and Allow. The connection then shows under API keys as "Claude (connected app)"; delete it there to disconnect. Claude Code does the same if you add the server without --header.
Other MCP clients that ask for a header name and value: name X-API-Key, value your key (s3d_…). Authorization with Bearer s3d_… works too.
From a script, with the same header:
| Request | Gives |
|---|---|
GET /api/v1/projects |
Your organization's saved projects: name, last saved, size |
GET /api/v1/projects/<name> |
A download link to the current .jcad (1 hour) |
GET /api/v1/projects/<name>?download=1 |
The file itself (follow the redirect: curl -L) |
Up to 120 calls a minute per person. Claude runs on your own Claude plan: scrawl3d charges nothing for its calls.
Install it as an app
scrawl3d installs like an app on a phone, tablet or computer: it gets its own icon and opens full screen, without the browser around it.
- Android, Chrome or Edge on a computer: Install app at the bottom of the site or at the top of Account (or the browser menu › Install app).
- iPhone and iPad: in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
