Sketch

Switch to Sketch (under the logo) or Create › Sketch for a new one. It works like CorelDRAW: draw shapes, pick and transform them, fine-tune points, then make them 3D.

Toolbox (left)

Tool Key Use
Pick V Select, move, scale, rotate
Node edit N Move points, bend segments into arcs and curves
Line L Click points; click the first point to close
Rectangle R Drag corner to corner
Ellipse E Drag corner to corner
Triangle T
Polygon Y Sides in the property bar
Star S Points and inner size in the property bar
Slot O Rounded ends

While dragging a shape: Ctrl makes it square/round, Shift draws from the centre.

Pick tool

  • Click to select, Shift-click to add, drag a box to select several.
  • Drag a shape to move it (Ctrl keeps it on one axis). Arrow keys nudge 1 mm (Shift 10 mm).
  • Corner handles scale keeping proportions; side handles stretch; the ○ above rotates in 15° steps (Alt: free).
  • Property bar: X, Y, W, H, 🔒 proportions, angle, and the shape's own settings (corner radius, sides, points). Shapes stay editable shapes until you move their points with the Node tool.
  • Weld / Trim / Intersect (two or more selected): merge, cut the others out of the first one picked, or keep only the overlap. Trim removes the cutting shapes so the hole stays a hole.
  • Align & Distribute (two or more selected, in the property bar): align left / centre / right edges or top / middle / bottom, or distribute three or more so the gaps between them are equal (the outermost two stay put).
  • Ctrl+D duplicates, Ctrl+A selects all, Del deletes.

Node tool: lines into arcs and curves

Each segment has a ◆ handle in its middle. Drag it in any direction: straight out from the line it bends into a true arc (even on both sides); off towards one end it becomes a free curve that passes through the handle and leans that way. Hold Shift while dragging to keep it an arc. Drag it back near the line and it snaps straight. Double-click a segment to add a point (arcs and curves split exactly in half). Select a segment to switch Line / Arc / Curve, type its radius, length, or flip the arc.

Right-click a point for:

  • Snap to nearest line: moves it onto the closest spot on any other line, arc or circle (handy for ending a line exactly on an edge).
  • Snap to nearest point: onto the closest other point.
  • Delete point.

Snapping: points snap to the grid and to other points; hold Alt to turn it off for one drag. Untick Snap to grid (top of the right panel) to stop grid snapping; points still snap to other points. The grid gets finer as you zoom in.

Make it 3D

  • Extrude to a height.
  • Revolve around the yellow axis (only the right half is used); good for round profiles.

Shapes inside shapes become holes. Open lines (drawn with the line tool and left open) become raised ribs on top of an extrusion: a leaf's spine and veins, a stiffening rib, a raised outline. In the part panel set Rib width, Rib height and End width (each rib narrows from where you started drawing it to that much at its end, so draw veins from the spine outwards). Ribs stop at the outline.

On an extrusion, the part panel can also round the outline's corners and the top and bottom edges (see Round all the edges).

Shapes inside shapes become holes. Create part adds it to the scene; on a sketch part, Edit sketch in the inspector brings the drawing back and Update part rebuilds it.
